Angelo Ruta


Illustrator, stage and set designer, film director, Angelo Ruta was born in Ragusa in 1967.

He lives in Milan, where he studied scenography at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. He also studied both Illustration and cinema/television Cinematography.
He is working at the moment as an illustrator, graphic designer and film/theatre scriptwriter and director.

His works have been published by several publishers, as Usborne, Lion Hudson, Mondadori, Einaudi, Giunti, E.Elle, Editions du Signe and Zanichelli. His graphic contributions have also been published in newspapers and magazines - Il Corriere della Sera, Il Sole 24 ore, Panorama, Il Mondo, Leggere, Riza psicosomatica - as comments of culture, news and psychology articles.


In 1992 his works were exhibited at the Mostra Internazionale degli Illustratori in Bologna, and later in Tokyo, Nishinomiya, Kurashiki, Collodi, Verbania, Trieste, Padova, Bari, Enna, Genova.

In 1996 he made the short "Gli occhi aperti", which was rewarded with the first prize at the film contest Spazio Italia, at Premio della Stampa of XIV Torino Film Festival, and won the Film making prize at I Genova Film Festival.

In 1998 he wrote and directed the full-length movie "Animali felici".


In 2001 he wrote and directed the theatre plays "Il mio posto Ŕ in un campo di grano" and "In pietra mutata ogni voce".

In 2003 he won the Premio Solinas for the movie subject "Il mare sotto il cemento".

For the dancer Maria Carpaneto he wrote and directed in 2006 "Donne che corrono coi lupi", from Clarissa Pinkola EstÚs's essay. In 2007 he wrote and directed "T'amo senza sapere come", from the correspondence between Dino Campana e Sibilla Aleramo.
